We have found the the Golden New Zealand moss is an almost miraculous rooting medium. Roots and babies seem to come much more quickly this way than any other we have tried.  Here is a picture of a plant that has grown up entierly from a leaf rooted in moss in a small covered fish bowl

And following here is an experiment where we used the moss wrapped around a long necked violet to pre-root it before cutting the crown

and here is the plant one month later with the moss removed and roots showing. You would not have to remove the moss before planting but we wanted to expose the roots for the picture.
