We have found the the
Golden New Zealand moss is an almost miraculous rooting medium.
Roots and babies seem to come much more quickly this way than any
other we have tried. Here is a picture of a plant that has
grown up entierly from a leaf rooted in moss in a small covered fish
bowl

And following here is an experiment where we used the moss
wrapped around a long necked violet to pre-root it before cutting
the crown
here is the long necked plant wraped with moss

and here is the plant one month later with the moss removed and
roots showing. You would not have to remove the moss before planting
but we wanted to expose the roots for the picture.
